According to the 2001 census it had a population of 523. The village is about 9 miles north of Andover and 9 miles south of Hungerford in Berkshire. In the village there is The George pub run by James and Nicky Haigh and the Millenium Hall which is used for a variety of community events and services and for private hire. The village is served by the Vernham Dean Gillum's Church of England Primary School and the Little Fingers Pre-school.
